WHAT ABOUT GLOBAL POLUTION?<
© 2008 by G. Edward Griffin. Updated 2010 February 3
I recently received the following email:
Hello Mr. Griffin, While I'm inclined to agree with the position of some who say the government is encouraging it as a way to enact more laws, hence reduce our freedoms that much more! However, I can't help but look at the issue from another standpoint, namely global pollution! I don't think there's a soul who could deny that our planet is indeed polluted and that there is hardly a clean body of water anywhere to be found. I used to eat a lot of fish, but now refrain because of the Mercury contamination of sea life. There are toxins in our food supplies and industrial waste is everywhere! So, while there may be a question about the veracity of global 'warming', I hardly see how there can be any question about global pollution. And in that context I believe human life is every bit as endangered......if not more so! Could this global warming be a red herring to take the focus away from global pollution? Something to think about!

This was my reply:
Hello Mary.
I agree that global pollution is a serious problem, far more serious than warming (which is a non-problem). The fact that the totalitarians are pushing warming rather than pollution is revealing. Pollution can be controlled by local ordinances and education whereas stopping supposed warming requires draconian measures that require the loss of personal freedom and mammoth intervention in our life styles, economic output, travel, and every other aspect of our lives. That is a dead giveaway that these people have a hidden agenda that has very little to do with the environment.
Thanks for really caring about our world.
DON'T CONFUSE GLOBAL WARMING WITH GLOBAL POLLUTION
On 2010 Februrary 3, I received the following email from Lindy Marrington:
Dear Ed, However, it cannot be good for the planet or the air surrounding it to have all the toxic wastes that are emitted on a daily basis in vast quantities. The amount of pollution is huge and how can it not affect the climate? It disturbs me that you choose to negate it so much that you seem to swing to the other end as if all the pollution being dumped into the system doesn't matter at all and has absolutely no affect on the environment whatsoever. Just the fact that one can actually see pollution hanging in the air and floating in the water tells one's common sense that these chemicals must be altering the balance of the planet. Perhaps I am not understanding your perspective, but the tone puts me off. I am an avid fan of yours and this is the only stance you have that really does not set well with me. For whatever it is worth, I just thought I would dialog with you. |
THIS WAS MY REPLY:
Hello Lindy.
I regret that you have a wrong understanding of my stance on global pollution. I am in total agreement with your concern over the effect of toxic pollutants in our environment and have stated so on many occasions. It is true that most of my published comments on this topic have focused on the myth of global warming, because that is where most of the political action is focused. Cap-and-trade taxation is moving forward under the banner of global warming, not global pollution; so that, of necessity, has been our priority. However, please do not think that I have taken sides with the polluters. I have been outspoken against pollution for many years, and I believe this is a proper area of government regulation, because it is related to the protection of human life.
Thanks for caring about the environment.
LINDY'S RESPONSE:
Thank you for the clarification. Your stance makes more sense to me now.
